Here’s a mostly simple arrangement of the favorite gospel song, Trust and Obey. You know when I think of this song, I think of its simplicity. As Christians, we need to simply trust and obey God. However, it’s not always as easy as it sounds. That’s why we need the reminder.
I hope you enjoy this song. It won’t take long to learn it, and I hope it will be a blessing to your worship service.
As many of you know, at the end of last month I released the digital version of my new album (as well as the digital sheet music), “The Hymns Project,” and then I promptly went “off the grid.” Except for the website support (which I handle all of), and a few Facebook interactions, I laid low. The primary reason was because our family took a vacation for the first two weeks in June, and upon returning, I mainly spent the rest of June focusing on my church ministry responsibilities.
“The Hymns Project” has been well-received
Overall, I’ve been very happy with how The Hymns Project has been received. Of course, the sheet music side of things has been great. I feel these arrangements are some of my finest, and I’m happy that I’m getting a lot of positive feedback. Read more…
I’m happy to be associated with Alfred Publishing. They have just released two new piano collections: Wondrous Praise, Books 3 & 4. This is part of a four book series.
Wondrous Praise Book 1

This collection contains a mix of beloved songs from the ’80s that have become standards in many churches, as well as some treasured pieces that will bring back memories of contemporary Christian music from decades past. Titles: Change My Heart, Oh God * El Shaddai * Great Is the Lord * He Is Exalted * How Majestic Is Your Name * More Precious Than Silver * More Than Wonderful * Thank You * Was It a Morning Like This? * Wonderful, Merciful Savior. One of my favorite church songs is actually an Irish folk song that has been combined with Christian lyrics. My favorite renditions include Dottie Rambo’s “He Looked Beyond My Fault” and–more recently–Krystin Getty’s “What Grace Is Mine”. It is unknown who has written this tune, but it is powerful, especially when performed with expression.

The Sacred Christmas all-digital piano collection has been available for about a month and a half, and I couldn’t be more pleased with the response. Many of you who have taken advantage of this collection have written and share very kind comments. It’s awesome that you can use this music in your ministry; I can’t tell you how cool that is!
In fact, the response this last year to my website and the music store has really been a wake up call for me. I have really approached this ministry very casually, writing music when I’ve had time, not taking much time for blogging, etc. I plan to change that in 2015. Read more…

I’ve received lots of requests for different arrangements (more than I can physically get to), but someone recently said that most of my free music is later intermediate or harder, so I thought I’d try a few free easy arrangements. Here’s the first: “Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee.” Read more…

Introducing a new piano collection: Blessed Assurance
Blessed Assurance is really an example of “you talked, and we listened.” Through email, Facebook, and website contacts, I’ve received several requests for intermediate level (or easy) piano arrangements that also sound interesting. So I took the challenge and arranged this collection.
Many of these songs include two or three stanzas, and are set at an early intermediate to intermediate level. This collection contains 15 well-known and favorite gospel songs and hymns. Each song is 3+ pages long.
Blessed Assurance is equally suited for the early intermediate student who would like to begin playing hymn arrangements, and also for the advanced pianist who enjoys arrangements that involve very little prep time. My goal was to keep these at an easy level, while still maintaining creative freshness and interest throughout.

Here’s the latest premium piano arrangement available for immediate download. This song is a traditional chorus that simply recites Psalm 103:1:
Bless the Lord, O My Soul;
Bless the Lord, O My Soul;
And all that is within me,
Bless His holy name.
This arrangement is set at an intermediate level, and is ideal for Thanksgiving or general worship.

Following in the line of simplistic piano arrangements (like this one), My Faith Has Found a Resting Place is a good intermediate arrangement. Nothing too flashy here. Just a simple way to express that Jesus’ blood and righteousness are all we can depend on.

This new arrangement of Be Still, My Soul is very simplistic. I’ve noticed that often some of the best music is simple music. So that’s what I was attempting to achieve here.
Advanced pianists, don’t be fooled. Simple arrangements can be played very artistically and effectively.
I extended the introduction over eight measures, because I really enjoyed playing the hook for this arrangement, and it helps to set the mood for the song.

This patriotic selection (also known as, “America”) is bursting forth with energy and excitement. It’s a contemporary arrangement, with syncopated rhythms and rich harmonies throughout. I’d classify it as a late-intermediate arrangement, 5 pages in length.
Be Still – 10 Songs of Comfort and Encouragement
The first in a new line of “digital download” sheet music, I’m thrilled to offer this new collection of late-intermediate piano solos. Primarily written in a reflective manner, these selections are designed to encourage you and be an encouragement to your audience.

Over the years I have been privileged to play the piano for what we call in our services, the invitation. It’s a time of silent prayer typically following a sermon in which people are encouraged to respond in consecration. Individuals will pray silently in their seat, or they will kneel or walk to the front and pray. It’s a time of reflection, of repentance, and of commitment.
It’s with this backdrop that I am able to play reflective songs. Typically, I’ll improvise with a few chord patterns or progressions. Then I’ll begin playing a familiar “invitation hymn,” like “Just As I Am” or “I Surrender All.” This book is a compilation of such improvisations. It’s meant to be a guide, to offer suggestions and ideas for your own reflective piano playing during a service. You can also use the arrangements in a service when a soft or reflective instrumental is appropriate.
Publisher’s description: This reflective solo piano collection is appropriate for times of silent prayer. The meditative arrangements are both calming and inspirational. Titles: Have Thine Own Way, Lord * I Have Decided to Follow Jesus * I Surrender All * Is Your All on the Altar? * I Will Follow (Medley) (Where He Leads Me, I Will Follow / Take My Life, and Let it Be / Footsteps of Jesus) * Just As I Am, Without One Plea, Lord, I’m Coming Home * Search Me, O God * Softly and Tenderly Jesus Is Calling * Whiter Than Snow.
