Course Description

Join Greg Howlett as he describes a powerful strategy for improving your understanding of harmony. If you have been playing the piano for at least one year, you will be able to understand all the concepts presented in this class. You’ll also begin to start manipulating chords immediately using the same strategies that Greg uses.

This is not a typical common-tone approach to chord substitutions as taught by many colleges. Rather, it is a simple yet extremely beautiful strategy built on diatonic chords and circle of fifths harmony. All terms are defined and all concepts are thoroughly discussed prior to being demonstrated.

Suggested Prerequisites

  1. You will need to be able to read music (general basics such as naming notes and counting).
  2. You will need to have an understanding of basic theory, such as key signatures, simple intervals, how to build a major scale, and basic chords. (We will review chords in the class, so don’t worry if you are somewhat rusty.)

You must log in to submit a review.
